Poulsbo, Washington: Day Trip

Pacific Northwest winters are known to be a particularly dreary time of the year. The only way to deal with the weather is to cozy up at home or head outside, despite the rain, and discover little gems around the area.

December 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, we (couple of my friends and I) decided to drive down to Poulsbo for a day trip. We took the Bainbridge ferry from downtown Seattle - you can drive into the boat with your car which makes it really convenient.

The boat ride is one of my favorite things to do in Seattle, especially if you get lucky with the weather in December, like we did, albeit in patches. You get to see amazing views of the Seattle skyline, the Puget Sound and glimpses of Mt. Rainier.

The City of Poulsbo is around 12 miles from Bainbridge Island, so just a short smooth drive. The quaint town overlooks the Liberty Bay and has beautiful water views. We went a week before Christmas and the city was decked out beautifully with lights and decorations. Just hanging out at the Liberty Bay Waterfront Park with some delicious baked goods from Sluys was so calming and rejuvenating.

We walked the city streets which have some great art galleries, places to shop for local goods and keepsakes, great bakeries and dining options. We had a late lunch at The Loft at Latitude followed by ice cream at Mora Iced Creamery.

After a relaxed, fun day we drove back in the afternoon to catch the ferry back to Seattle. I would love to come back soon to visit the Kitsap Memorial State Park.
